Valletta won this title 19 times.

| F. Alonso wins the Japanese Grand Prix after starting from 5th place. After the first pits F. Alonso found himself 5 seconds behind M. Schumacher and this part of the race was very exciting seeing both drivers giving the most.
It was only 17laps from the end of the race when F. Alonso sees his hopes fly high after a white cloud came out of M. Schumacher, exactly to the contrary of the race in Monza.

| M. Schumacher wins the Italian GP in Monza ahead of his replacement at Ferrari K. Räikkönen. In fact M. Schumacher announced his retirement from Formula 1 driving and Ferrari confirmed that in 2007, the drivers will be Kimi and Massa.
A 3rd place re-given to Kubica after Alonso's retirement 10 laps from end of race who now sees his direct rival only 2 points behind him.
Renault's manager Briatore claims that after this race everything is clear where the championships will go.
